Luxman L-560

by Glen Newdick Date Added: Thursday 22 September, 2016
I've Had My L560 for about 8 months now. I replaced an AudioNote set up when I was down sizing. My system:

Garrard 301 grease bearing-Jelco 750l 12" arm- Van Den Hul MC-10 MC cart- Pioneer HZ-1 Head amp- Custom made MM section-(or the MM/MC section in the L560 its very good to) Luxman L560- Living Voice Avatar 2 speaker- Siltech silver / gold speaker wire and AudioNote Silver interconnects. Also stream Tidal through a HTPC Optically to-MSB DAC with Burson Audio Discreet op-amps upgrade.

So the I replaced AudioNote UK gear with a 20+ year old Luxman L560 you must be thinking I was crazy but to be honest I find the lux much more musical, detailed and engaging. The Lux just seems to do everything right for me. Its got a huge sound stage both in depth and width that invites you to listen and be involved. Its detailed with out being in your face or analytical. Its got fast articulate bass that's deep and clean. and the mids are warm but not tube warm just a nice musical warmth that only class A can get right. the highs are extended but never harsh but yet detailed enough to enjoy simbles that shimmer not shriek and highs that are realistic not grating. I love the ability to add a little Bass with the tone controls for movies or shitty 80's recordings and its not a smearing of boost as you can tailor the cut off frequencies to just add where you need it.

Over all its a very detailed and musical amp that invites you in to listen and enjoy music. I find I listen to much more music then when I had the AudioNote gear and I'm listening to the music not the equipment and to me that's what counts.

I'm always surprised when I crank the amp at how dynamic it is and it never runs out of power. ok I have 94db speakers but that 50wc pure class A power is wonderful if not a room heater.

Its also got many inputs 5 line 2 phono(mm/mc)that modern Amps seem to have lost over the years and the ones in the front are more handy then I thought as my friends when visiting can plug right in..think Ipod etc.

Over all this is a killer amp thats build like a tank and with a little care will last years to come. with service available almost anywhere I will be keeping this one even if I upgrade in the future I will never sell this wonderful amp. Oh its quite good looking too with the real wood sides, top and the silver face. I think the only thing that may be a little bit of a down side is the heat it produces summer time it can get a little worm in the house and lack of a remote.
