I am a avid stereo tech and classic audio collector. Just picked up a first generation Sony STR 6120 from a local thrift store. This receiver has the gray metal cabinet and was found in 99% MINT physical top collector condition.
There was a second \"F\"series generation that had added FET transistors and a few other minor add on\'s. Other then the FETs and slight spec imporvments Both receivers are the same.
STR 6120 was introduced in 1969 and one of the early all transistor stereo receivers from Sony Japan.
This receiver fired up right away on the service bench. It is amazing many of these receivers can sit for years and years and still work 40 + years later.
Most of the blubs are burnt out as expected.Controls needed cleaning.
Very clean powerful sound threw some advents test speakers.Rated at 60x 2 watts.Very clean powerful sound.
Has look and feel of \"high end\" electronics. The lite brown circuit boards resemble later Carver and some Euro receivers. Large fancy power transformer Huge power transistor heat sink(rear)Well built and nice layout.
High quality Speaker /antenna terminals are chrome twist on wire posts type easy to use.
This historic receiver is a must to own for any audio collection. These are considered ON THE RARE side from other posts . I have never seen one in all my 30 years of collecting.
