Sony STR-7065

by Tom Vette Date Added: Friday 15 May, 2015
I purchased one new in college and regretted selling it for years. I recently purchased a used one again. Here is a quick review. I collected high end tube and solid state gear for many years and a number of early receivers such as the Marantz 2070 which I used for reference. The phono, preamp and power amp on this receiver produce a wide and deep sound stage with really nice detail and punch beating my other receivers a bit sonically. The tuner is good but the Marantz is a bit quieter. The build quality, styling and quality is wonderful. High end modern gear has faster transients, more slam, and more inner detail and sound stage. That said Sony really designed a well made, long lasting product here, worth powering a bedroom or study hi fi.
