Sony TC-K1A

by Jim Koll Date Added: Wednesday 05 December, 2018
I just brought my Sony TC K1A tape deck home from an electronic recycle center. I inspected the lines, replaced the belt with a belt intended for a 1993 Kenwood unit of mine, thoroughly cleaned the unit with 91 percent rubbing alcohol, cleaned and demagnetized the tape head, and touched up the plastic meter shrouds with a drop of 3in1 machine oil on a rag. The unit played and operated normally. No adjustments were needed for motor speed-it was spot on! I attached it to my high-end amp with Harmon Infinity speakers, and put a type 4 metal cassette(used CRo2 setting) with a recording I made in 1986 of the Boston Pops playing 2001 Space Odyssey and Star Trek. It plays phenomenally well! Crisp highs and full bass response! Not a bad haul for $15! I shined up like new-out of the box with its indestructible aluminum finish! A great addition to my other decks!
