I owned his model from 1992 till the belt gave up the ghost a number of years ago. It,s now resting in the loft probably never to see the light of day again. It was a rash purchase as I wanted an all Sony seperates system for some reason. Performance was surprisingly quite poor as other decks in the range got lots of plaudits.
I previously owned an entry level Aiwa 220 which beat the pants of this for sound quality despite being apx £85 cheaper ! It was let down by a crappy door which spelt the death knell to an otherwise excellent budget product.
Great for feature count the Sony looks good value on paper but is let down badly with a very rough and ready sound probably caused by the transport, no issues with clarity but the Dolby B/C didn,t work so well either. There were also issues with wow & flutter
Maybe if it had the slightly dearer models cassette stabilizer fitted it would have improved the sound ?
Avoid ! Far better decks out there, I switched to the great sounding Aiwa 810 after about 18 months of getting peed of with the Sonys average performance.
It was also the clunkiest device I had the misfortune to use, getting the drift !
