The deck I wanted to get when I was a young boy. Cost a bit more than I could afford, so I got the little brother, RS-631, with normal VU meters and without bias fine adjust. But got one rather recently for my collection.

The transport is solid (from my experience with RS-631). It survived my urge to do surgery to it and 3 or 4 total strip-downs and re-assemblies. The sound quality is typical for a two head deck. A three head deck will record much better but this one reproduced these cassettes decently. The lack of Dolby C makes it a museum item rather than a deck one would keep in rotation.

It was the first deck from Technics to sport the VF bar vu-meters. They look just gorgeous.

I have had the pleasure of owning this deck since new. It records and playsback very nice. The sound is very clear and the highs and low frequencys are very impressive. The only thing I have to do was to replace the main belt and also replaced the counter belt as well. If you can find this deck for sale do buy it, you will be impressed. It is also the first Technics deck to have flouresent meters.
