I also have a SA400, among others.
It is an \"office\" receiver with a couple small Wharfdales and a pair od RadioShack 77 speakers.
I went through it, really didn\'t need anything, but did a precision alignment since I have the Panasonic generators .
It is a wonderful performer, and looks ever so nice.

My father bought this receiver new in '79 or '80 and matched it to a pair of AR speakers, three-ways maybe. He then set the tuner to his favorite AM news radio station and left it there for two decades or more. The digital age came about and the thing was relegated to a slow death in a hot Texas garage until I went to visit and spotted it. I dusted it off and plugged it in, half expecting some kind of explosion, or at least a small fire. Nope. It fired right up and gave me three or four years of reliable service before eventually needing a restoration. A couple hundred dollars later it was back on my shelf, where it has been performing flawlessly ever since. I have a nice pair of old Technics speakers (a few years newer than the SA-400) and this computer hooked up to it. I had an Impro turntable from the SA-400's era patched in as well until my vinyl succumbed to a particularly brutal Texas summer. At one point this receiver was used as a reference amp for a digital 24/96 home studio, with a Yamaha 3-way reference speaker system on the "remote" speaker outs. It stood its ground very well in a professional audio environment. Although I'm not an expert, my ears and I endorse and recommend this piece for home audio applications.

PROS: Very clear audio transmission at high sound levels, DURABLE.
CONS: For my purposes, none.
