Yamaha CA-810

by Butch Lokey Date Added: Thursday 12 April, 2012
Bought the CA810 and CA800 amp and tuner from Sound Studio back in 1978. Put this through it's paces and although it is rated at 75 Watts per channel, this baby was pushing out 100 WPC with no strain at all!! It has been my go to standard device all these years with a few repairs, but it's still pumping out great!! I have had several different turntables configured with this, my Visonik BD5200 has always been old reliable. Signet TK5E cartridge with original stylus and a pair of JBL L110 studio monitors and this has been an excellent medium size system that for the price rivalled the higher end stuff Sound studio sold. My only regret was I had a chance then to buy the Linn Sondek LP-12 and I passed. That was a mistake!!

I see these Yamaha units on Ebay all the time for reasonable money. Have built system for 2 of my 3 sons with CA-1010 amp and CR620 receiver. These are fine units for the money and unless you have the $$$ for a high end tube amp, I'd say these are excellent choice for those getting started in the vintage, 2-channel arena.
