This is a gem of a solid state unit and from what I understand it has discrete parts in some important places as opposed to integrated circuits that the bigger CR Yamaha brethren partake of. Bigger is definitely not always better!
I have some high-end gear in my main system and I have this receiver hooked up in my bedroom system with a pair of Fostex FE108E Sigma Full range drivers in Buschhorn cabinets and it sounds wonderful!

I really don't remember what i payed for mine, but I have one of these receivers and it sounds great.
It sounds as good as the Marantz ( which needs repaired, it took a spike).
It is aesthetically nice and the controls are layed out in a very convenient array.
My only beef is the loudness control, which I would far rather have simple button that kicks loudness in and out. I don't find the added feature of being able to adjust the loudness to be of any real benefit for casual listening.

I'm listening to my yamaha cr420 as I write this review. The sound is clear @ articulate.I'm using Dynaco A- 25's.It does not distort @ higher volumes,@ it sounds great with vinyl.I was using a Marantz SR1000 @ this 420 eats it up,as it just sounds so much better.I got this off e-bay for $70.00 shipped,so happy,as seems very high quality.I'm hooked up to a vintage Dual CS 620 Q turn table sounds great.Nothing else to say. Thank you.
