this is a review for the yamaha r-70 receiver. my older brother bought this brand new back in 1983 and handed it down to me around 1998. the only issue it had after 15 years was the volume nob loosened.in my past 12 years of owning it the buttons that switch it's function are now going bad. i would say the amplifier is definitely a piece of history.it is quite possible that this was one of the earliest amplifiers to use computer control technology for the sound system.in a nutshell, one of the earliest to have a graphic equalizer that was digital.this 5 band graphic equalizer had roughly about 40 different settings in total and they all began with a preset so the equalizer band for this model was not truly holding infinite combinations of sound. it's bigger brother, the r-100 did just this and not only did each band move from the bottom to the top of the band completely but a remote control came with that unit.the r-100 had twice the overall wattage and the volume dial used a servo motor.if you could find either of these amplifiers in excellent or great condition both are worth owning.both models are designed for very large speakers.
