Luxman L-309

by Larry Stap Date Added: Wednesday 24 September, 2014
I have owned this amp for years and years and I love it.

Listening to music I mainly input from an DAC (RDAC by Arcam (wifi from 320k mp3 or lossless)) and out to two Redline 45 B&O speakers mounted high (5ft up) on a large shelf. The sound is crisp and detailed, even sparkling for baroque (like Bach or Vivaldi), beautifully reproducing strings and piano and orchestra. John Cage (e.g. litany for the whale or prepared piano) is wonderful. The bass on the B&Os is going off (need to fix the ABRs) so it is not fair for me to comment on bass production through this system. I am considering replacing the B&Os with something high end but not sure what.

I have two Monitor Audio BX1 speakers on remote in a large kitchen/dining area (a separate room) driven through old cable from the Luxman and whilst these are more bassy and a bit dull compared to the B&Os, the sound is still good to an obsessive HiFi enthusiast like me!

I highly recommend it if you can get one.

In its day it was truly high end and, if you don't mind a large wooden unit then I think you will love it.
