An outstanding receiver that was a sleeper in its time. The dynamic headroom and imaging were far beyond the competing products at the same price-point and power rating (85watts RMS X 4). A little clunky in terems of size and weight, but that was the build of the 70\"s complete with huge caps and ten pound transformers. The most surprising aspect is the melifluous clarity in the mid and lower upper range. It has a transparency I\'ve only experienced listening to classic tube amps (Mac\'s, Dynaco etc.) but it\'s solid state. To get that these days prepare to injure your wallet bigtime. Everyone who listens to it through JBL centurys, classic Advents or more modern EPI\'s just can\'t believe how good it sounds compared to some other more expensive and famous amps including a classic HK, a high end NAD unit and an assortment of others I obsessively hang onto just to play with. If you are looking for something basic, cheap and very good, look here. Also I did not mean to denigrate the bass response. It is both punchy and warm sounding. At high volume through the Centuries, it is very accurate with little audible distortion. About the only negative I can muster is that there is some white noise at high volume in quiet passages of classical music. But for rock and roll you can fill up a room in hurry with no obvious faults. I\'ve had the receiver 25 years and it has seen the repair shop just one time
